The Sham series is a body of work where Rah uses a photographic technique called light painting in an attempt to write her own name. Light painting in photography creates a unique tension between the techniques. There is no chance of perfectly reproducing the same type of movement suggested by the gesture. Yet, the technique to create a photograph is systematized. In this performance-based series Rah uses her body as a vessel to challenge these hierarchies, and additionally cultural identity and racial performativity by way of mimicking cultural tropes.
